Torvgården, Asker

Torvgården constitutes a full development block in Asker, Norway. It is a natural point of destination and juncture for pedestrians, cars and public transit to Asker town center. SGS was commissioned to build the glass façade that bears a resemblance to Aalvar Alto´s famous “Iittala Vase” characterized by its curvilinear shape and extruding perimeter. Torvgården contains offices, stores and restaurants.

The façade construction consists of a number of unique steel frames that are attached to the slab edge and covered by spandrel and clear insulation glass, a construction technique that gives a unique and delicate structural glazing expression.
