Nørreport Station, Köpenhamn
As a part of Copenhagen Municipality’s major infrastructure initiative, Nørreport Station comprises an important hub in central Copenhagen. SG’s contract encompasses twelve ventilation towers and three oval building frames. Finish has been key throughout the project and a great deal of energy has been expended on the details.
SG has been responsible for all exterior aspects of the ventilation towers. Surprisingly, the curved oak benches proved particularly challenging. After a number of trials, we found an effective and esthetically pleasing solution: CNC milling solid pieces of wood. The glass is curved ornamental glass, which is illuminated at night to create a striking urban environment.
The oval, fully glazed building frames are made from curved insulated glass. One of the buildings is a public restroom and in this case we have toyed with the transparency of the glass and screen-printed a gradient that shifts from opaque to fully transparent. The screen print is also functional, reducing sunlight and thereby the need for cooling. Innovative details that create a simple and homogeneous impression in a project with not one single straight component.
