Munch Museum, Oslo
In Bjørvika, just next to Oslo opera house, the new Munch museum is undergoing construction. In july -16 the contract for the 12 300 m2 façade was signed between Skandinaviska Glassystem and Oslo municipality.
The façade consists mainly of prefabricated modules built in our factory complete with glass, insulation and cladding to perform a watertight and swiftly mounted façade at building site. As the module façade is mounted an outer cladding of sinus-shaped, perforated plates are added to give the building is special character. The perforated plates also work as an effective sunscreen without compromising the visitors feeling of transparency and light. At daytime the museum seems wrapped in a thin white shell while as the darkness falls the building is lit up and the façade becomes semi-transparent showing its interior to the outside spectator.
The museum is divided in to two main functions; the base, called the Podium, where all public functions are housed and the 60 meters high tower where all of the museums core functions such as i.e. exhibitions are housed. The tower consists of a closed part to the east and an open vertical space to the west where visitors can move between the exhibitions while enjoying the spectacular view of Oslo.
The museum is commissioned by Oslo municipality and architect is the Spanish Estudio Herreros Architects. Mounting of the façade will start in June 2017.
