Naturum Tåkern, Ödeshög
Naturum Tåkern is one of several buildings in Sweden that are used to show the country’s unique landscape and habitats to the general public.
The building is managed by collaboration between Länstyrelsen (County Admission Board) and Naturrvårdsverket (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency). Naturum Tåkern is located on the shores of Lake Tåkern, an environmentally protected lake as its waters are home to many species of wild birds and animals.
The architect Gert Wingårdh has decided to use straw as a major building material in the façade and roof. The building is an asymmetrical U-shape that fits well in the surrounding terrain. Although at first glance the building may seem closed off it has a number of glass openings that seem as though they are cut out of the façade. On the rooftop there is also a glass opening that allows sunlight to flow in to the interior throughout the say.
“Skandinaviska Glassystem was involved in these glass designs from a very early stage and we are extremely proud of the result.” – Project manager Erik Stening.
The project was nominated for ”Kasper Salinpriset” 2012.
